PCs want NDP to cut spending

Cut $4 billion over the next two years.

That’s the challenge the Alberta Progressive Convservatives posed to the NDP government.

Department of Policy Studies Professor at Mount Royal Unversity, Duane Bratt says the announcement comes at an interesting time.

“I’m suruprised that they’re producing this now before the budget comes out on the 14th. I think they’re anticipating a very large deficit. We need to look at the specifics, just saying ‘cut four billion dollars’. My obvious question will be, ‘well where?'” Said Bratt.

He says, although $4 billion sounds like a lot, it only amounts to about a four per cent drop.
