The show goes on: ‘Making Treaty 7’ honours Calgary theatre pioneer’s legacy

After a terrible car crash took the lives of Local Theatre Pioneer Michael Green and Filmmaker Narcisse Blood in February, their legacy carries on.

‘Making Treaty 7’, a project the pair was working on in Saskatchewan, will be performed this week at Mount Royal University’s new Bella Concert Hall.

The unique theatrical performance explores the history of events at Blackfoot Crossing in 1877.

Actor Denise Clark tells City’s Breakfast Television, the project is an important one in this time of truth and reconciliation.

“It behooves all of us, to really — to educate ourselves about what it means to be Treaty people, because we are all Treaty people, and I was one of the woefully ignorant people who didn’t really clock that in my life, and I thought that the treaties were about “those people” and native people. It just really didn’t hit me that this was my issue as well,” she said.

Clark says each artist you’ll hear has written their own material, and that’s a tribute to Michael Green’s vision and how deeply he cared about the topic.
