Fourth candidate expected to enter PC leadership race

As another person possibly comes forward to run for leader of the Alberta PC Party, new voting rules will give long term members more power.
Dr. Richard Starke, a former veterinarian and two-time MLA for the riding of Vermillion-Lloydminster, is holding a news conference Thursday in Edmonton to make a statement about the leadership race.
Mount Royal University’s Lori Williams tells CityNews, it’s hard to say who will benefit from the new voting rules which she likens to the super-delegate system used by American political parties.
“It’s really difficult, unless you actually know how many of those delegates lean in one direction or another, whether it’s an advantage or a disadvantage,” she said.
Starke would be the fourth candidate if he joins the race following declarations by MP Jason Kenney, who wants to unite the PCs with the Wildrose, MLA Donna Kennedy-Glans, and Calgary Lawyer Byron Nelson.
The leadership vote takes place in March.
