Bill Brooks: Van Horne Institute celebrates silver anniversary

The Van Horne Institute, based at the University of Calgary, recently celebrated 25 years in the development of educational programs and public policy research in transportation, supply chain and logistics. The Institute works with universities across the country, including the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University, SAIT, Universities of Athabasca and Alberta, and Bow Valley College to educate and encourage the practitioners of the future to excel in a career that will expand Canada’s ability to compete in North American and world markets.
The silver anniversary milestone was celebrated with a sold out crowd in the Crystal Ballroom of the Fairmont Palliser Hotel. Attendees included: Bob and Carole Brawn with members of the Brawn Family Foundation; Mayor Bill Robertson of Okotoks; Colleen Shepherd, executive director, Calgary Regional Partnership; Mary Moran, CEO, Calgary Economic Development; Mel Belich, chairman of the Calgary Airport Authority and his wife Meryl; Mayor Patricia Matthews of the City of Chestermere; Kleo Landucci, managing director, Ashcroft Terminal; Peter Xotta, vice-president, Port of Vancouver; Glenn Graves, vice-president, RBC Canada; Micheal Colborne, CEO Pacific Western Transportation and his wife Barbara; George Lidgett, managing director, ATCO Group; Bryndis Whitson and Gail Pellerin of the Van Horne Institute; Peter Wallis, CEO, Van Horne Institute and his wife Terry; Esther Nagtegaal, assistant Deputy Minister, Government of Manitoba.
Jim Dewald, Dean of the Haskayne School of Business was the event’s keynote speaker and Mayor Naheed Nenshi delivered a brief address to the participants prior to the commencement of the dinner. Kent Hehr, Minister of Veterans Affairs brought greetings on behalf of the Government of Canada, and Graham Sucha, MLA , Calgary Shaw brought greetings on behalf of the Government of Alberta.
