Leitch signs pledge in bid to become Conservative leader

Federal Conservative leadership candidate Kellie Leitch is in Calgary to sign what she is calling a ‘Future Generations Protection Pledge.’

If she becomes prime minister one day, Leitch vows to present a balanced budget within 24 months, run a balanced budget every year, except in cases of natural disaster or war, and legislate a debt repayment schedule.

The signing event takes place at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Mount Royal University.

Leitch is running against 13 other people to become the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada.

North Vancouver MP Andrew Saxton announced Thursday he is also signing the pledge.
